Dr. Cicely Mitchell is a cultural badass and she has the data to prove it. Simply stated, she launches big ideas that make large cultural impact. From performance stages, festivals and large-scale music events that bring in millions of dollars to an area, Dr Mitchell's expertise is a gravitational force for change.
As a producer, Mitchell leverages extraordinary talent for economic development, convening, curating, and execution to produce events that are win-wins for all parties.
Mitchell maintains a passion for promoting progressive jazz and alternative soul music to a wide audience. She has a proven track record in music programming and artistic direction and is the co-owner of Missy Lane’s Assembly Room, a social hub for music lovers located in the heart of downtown Durham, North Carolina.
She is the co-founder of the original Art of Cool Project, a 501(c)(3) jazz presenting nonprofit organization in Durham. She is the former Artistic Director of SummerStage at Golden Belt, an outdoor stage abutting Hi-Wire Brewery and former Creative Director for jazz programming at Beyu Cafe.
Mitchell is also a talented and inspiring orator. Whether it's delivering the commencement speech at her alma mater, coaching leaders, or participating on jazz congress panel discussions she has knowledge to share with cultural leaders.
Mitchell received her bachelor’s degree from Tennessee State University in Nashville, and her Master of Science in biostatistics degree and her doctorate in biostatistics from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. When she's not inspiring leaders, communities and the creative culture to new heights, she is the senior director of biostatistics for Syneos Health. She currently resides in downtown Durham, NC.
